Sam

We have friends in Omaha who adopted their son from the same agency from whom we adopted Amy. He was born a year earlier than Amy, so both families were on "the list" at the same time. At one point we thought maybe we'd be able to adopt him, but our friends we either chosen or first on "the list." I don't remember the details. As is God's way, it was best for Sam to be in our friends' family. He was a perfect match for them.

Last week Sam was at the boy scout camp in Iowa that was hit by the tornado. We (along with everyone else) were shocked to learn he was one of four killed. It was so unreal. Then we were sad for his family and everyone who knew him. We never got the chance to know him because we never lived in Omaha during his life. But his family is special to our family. Dh's parents are good friends of Sam's grandparents, my parents are friends with Sam's parents and sisters. We send Christmas cards back and forth each year.

You may read about Sam here and read the sermon he wrote here. And if you think of it pray for his family.

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. 2 Corinthians 1:3, 4.

I'm so sorry, Momawake. How very sad. I will stop and pray for his family now.

I have prayed for those families who lost boys in the storm. But now that I know somebody who knows somebody it makes it all the more real and I will continue to pray.

My heart just breaks for you guys. May the Lord shower his comfort on you and your family and Sam's sweet family this day. "He tends his flock like a shepherd; He gathers the lambs in His arms and carries them close to His heart; He gently leads those that have young (Isaiah 40:11)."

Reading your blog/comments brings tears all over again. It is beyond comprehension the impact Sam has had. It is also the source of comfort for his family. Prayers are needed as well for the boys who survived and who witnessed nightmarish sights and had to do some gruesome first aid. The boys and their families who were injured are also in need of prayer and comfort. Thank you for your concerns.
