Antibiotic use

I really need to come up with a plan to blog regularly. :) For today I'm posting an article that came in my email this morning. It's written by Joette Calabrese. There's not a link for the article, but her website is here.

Postpone that Illness - Take Antibiotics

So often, moms call me when their children are sick with fevers and colds. Sometimes they call after the illness has progressed over a few days; the mom is at her wit's end with worry and frustration! At this point, homeopathy and natural medicine are a last ditch effort.

Meanwhile, over-the-counter-meds, Tylenol and the like have been employed, as well as a visit to the doctor. This is the typical scenario. The parent is hoping for direction from the doctor, but most often, an antibiotic is prescribed.

Antibiotic, antibiotic, antibiotic.

The parent buckles under the pressure and resorts to the drug. In short order, the fever reduces and the child recovers. Or does he?

"My child is sick again."

"Yes, of course," I think to myself.

Now, don't get the wrong impression. I recognize that it takes time to find comfort in not using a pill for every ill. This mentality has been ingrained in all of us and we must reprogram ourselves in order to undo this archaic thinking.

The new fever is, in fact, not new at all. It's the very same one which wasn't allowed to complete its course because antibiotics and the like had been used. Here it is again. After it was attacked with conventional "treatment" only a month previous, it's brewed in the system and mutated and rearranged itself.

Unfortunately, parents can be drawn to the idea that conventional medicine, hence antibiotics, can help, when in reality they only delay a full recovery. And worse yet, they cause a new long term illness. By using antibiotics, the disease will simply be rescheduled for a later date.

Mark it on your calendar ...its coming again.

If this were a financial analogy, we'd go to the bank to find our savings account emptied after making a poor investment on junk bonds.

The broker ought to be fired!

So, fire the antibiotics and the entire periphery!

Unfortunately, the child may have to start all over again with the same illness unless it is finally put to rest by simply getting over it naturally. This means, the illness should not be treated with drugs, but rather, the old fashioned way or via homeopathy, botanicals and the like.

My parents, the children of Italian immigrants with large families, were assigned to their beds when they were sick as kids. They were made to sweat it out with a good dose of garlic, chicken soup and sleep.

When they recovered, it was a true, deep recovery that allowed their body to understand the immunity it had just fashioned. Both of my parents, now in their eighties, have neither hay fever nor allergies.

I, on the other hand grew up in the 50's and 60's when antibiotics were considered state of the art. So when I got strep throat, croup, ear infections, bronchitis and the like, I was not able to recuperate fully. In fact, one might say that the reason for all of the mentioned illnesses is an expressed result of the antibiotics that were administered for the first infection.

Many of my contemporaries and I were plagued with one infection after another. When my tonsils were removed at the tender age of three, instead of tonsillitis, I was then plagued with bronchitis. The pathology simply traveled to a more important organ. Same pathology; different locale.

This is what I see day after day in my work as a homeopathic consultant/educator. The use of antibiotics is one of the travesties of childhood today. These medicines usually cause plenty of chronic illness along the way: gastro intestinal issues, irritable bowel syndrome, rheumatoid arthritis, GERD, Crohns, and interestingly, hay fever, later in life.

Yes, homeopaths of old knew well, that whenever a young person's infectious illness (which presented with a fever), was mismanaged by suppressing that same illness, chronic hay fever would be his middle-life suffering. Meanwhile, modern medicine's take on hay fever is that it is inherited.

This, of course, has never been proven.

Remember my parents? Well, after being allowed to just endure infectious childhood diseases without interference, they have had full adulthoods without hay fever, mono, Gerd, etc.

And me?

Well, I suffered from hay fever nearly my entire adult life. It is only now in my late 50's, after homeopathic treatment, that the hay fever has been brought to the point of minimal disruption in my life.

It has taken me this long to rid myself of these allergies because I had a history of repeated medications for every infectious illness that came my way.

That is, until twenty five years ago, when I found the world of natural health and homeopathy.

So, the next time you or your little one gets a cold or other simple infectious disease, celebrate the opportunity to protect yourselves from chronic illness later in life, and simply sweat it out...the way it was done for centuries.

Know that each illness you overcome without the use of medicine of commerce is strengthening the immune system against hay fever and the next infection.

Your body will understand what it's supposed to do... provide immunity and a healthy future.

I might add that use of antibiotics in children sets them up for a lifetime of battling candida symptoms.
