Christmas miscellaneous
It just didn't seem like it would be Christmas around here without another girl to join the family. We welcome Kit to the clan.
This is the flannel fabric that I didn't pass up when Joann had a 60% off sale. I made Amy a night gown out of it.
One of my favorite artists is Gene Roncka who lives in Ashland, Nebraska. Our house is graced with many of his prints. This year he designed an ornament in honor of the Nebraska Cornhuskers. I'm grateful to my parents for this gift.

Selah
As a family we enjoy the music of Selah. They had a new cd come out this year, so that was on my Christmas list. Amy & dh like to play their music, so I got Amy two of their songbooks. They are written for piano, guitar and voice.
She was excited. :)

Christmas Themes pt. 2
Beam me up Scotty!
It appears that Star Trek has become an obsession around my house. It's something both dh and Amy enjoy.
First up is the new Star Trek movie.
Amy wanted a Next Generation tricorder.
Amy wanted to get dh a tricorder from the original series.
Every year we get a Christmas ornament (one for us and one for Amy). This year she didn't like any of the trekky ornaments available, so I found one from 1996 of the Voyager. I'm thankful for ebay. ;-) I found both tricorders there as well as the ornament.
DH picked up the animated series on dvd for Amy. I'll bet you didn't know there were so many Star Trek items.
Amy bought a shirt for dh and added the black trim around the neck, the gold braid around the sleeve bands and a insignia patch. He's decked out with his new tricorder and his communicator.
Apparently, I needed to be scanned.

Christmas Themes pt. 1
Where's the Masking Tape?
When one is the only child in a family, that child gets blamed for all the missing items. Now, to be fair, I must admit that the one child in this family is not responsible for all the missing items and we're not totally sure about the masking tape since we haven't found it yet, but for now the blame has been cast. We'll see how long this stuff stays around. :)

Auction fundraiser
Amy has been helping our friends raise money for their adoption and now for orphans in Eastern Europe. She made and maintains their website. Right now there's an auction going on. They are auctioning three sets of Matroishka dolls. I've got my eye on one set. :) Click here to go to the site.

One more (maybe) Christmas/Winter dress
Amy uses this pattern so often it's falling apart. She uses it so much that one page of the English directions has left the building. The only directions available to me were in Spanish. Now I know Spanish some, but not enough to sew by it. And wouldn't you know, there are no pictures with the Spanish version. Why is that? So I went to Hobby Lobby and bought myself the pattern (it was on sale for $1.99). One could easily make several of these on one day, it's so easy.
Vintage style doll apron and traveling Ruthie
First up is traveling Ruthie. Ruthie visited us for a couple weeks. I sent her off with a new outfit, complete with her own bag.
I love this style of apron. The vintage-look fabric is perfect for it. The rick-rack is vintage. One of the vendors at the little antique store just up the street had vintage sewing notions for sale probably over a year ago. I finally put one to use.
Now you may be wondering why all the doll clothes all of a sudden. I've discovered that I can cut out the little pattern pieces right at the kitchen table or on the ironing board and that I can do it while Amy reads her school books to me. Larger sewing projects aren't so convenient. I'm sure I'll move on to something else after bit, but for now I'm enjoying it. I really hope to start knitting again!! And there's the hand quilting to do also, and other quilts to start for the orphans, more baby slings to start, etc. Happy sewing.

Dress and Pinafore
Today it's Etta's turn to model a new dress and pinafore apron. I used this pattern which does have at least one mistake in the directions. I ended up with a raw edge that should not have been, but no where were there directions otherwise. Fortunately, it was an easy fix by ironing and top stitching.

One of the things I like about this website is the tutorials they have. I've learned quite a few techniques watching the little videos.
Another thing I like about their store is the Daily Deal. Sometimes they have an offer I just can't pass up like a free turnover. All I had to pay was shipping.
Go check it out sometime.

Another Christmas poem
LET ME SEW (sung to Let it Snow)
Oh the weather outside is frightful
But my fabric is so delightful
I wish I'd no place to go
Let me sew! Let me sew! Let me sew!
My kitchen floor sure needs mopping
But I've bought some beads for topping
I should finish my UFO
Let me sew! Let me sew! Let me sew!
When I finally take a seat
How I'll hate going out in my home
My family'll want to eat
So leftovers they can rewarm
The stitches are finally flying
And the seams are flatly lying
If they really do love me so
They'll let me sew! Let me sew! Let me sew!
Oh the weather outside is frightful
But my fabric is so delightful
I wish I'd no place to go
Let me sew! Let me sew! Let me sew!

Another Kit Dress
Christmas Poem
For all my sewing/quilting friends. Click on the title to see where I found this poem.
Christmas Poem
Christmas Poem
Twas the night before Christmas, I'm glued to the tree.
I'm wondering what Santa brought just for me.
Could it be fat quarters or a pattern or lace?
Or a quilt kit, I said, with a smile on my face.
And that's when I heard him,
"Hi Santa," I said
"You know....good little girls should be in their beds ".
"I know I should Santa, and now I've got caught.
But I was just so excited to see what you brought."
"Well, let's take a look in this room where you work."
He shook his head quickly, And left with a jerk.
I heard him exclaim as he put it in gear.
"You've got enough stuff, I'll see you next year!"

Puzzle #46, 47, 48
I'm a little behind on sharing my puzzles. So here are the last three.
This one was new and missing pieces. :(
This one was an ebay find...it was the most fragrant puzzle I've ever smelled, almost like it had been soaked in perfume.
Every year we buy a Christmas ornament. This year we found a puzzle ornament. I'll post a picture of the actual ornament tomorrow.
